First and foremost, humans like change when it affects our lives positively. We adore it. We especially love to change other people. Because they are not how we would like them to be. But as much as we would like to change others, it won’t happen. Heck, we can’t even change ourselves sometimes.
You probably already tried to change someone, but you noticed that it wasn’t possible. Have you noticed why? It’s because personal change is just that: personal. You can’t change someone else, or even help them, if the other person doesn’t want to change himself.
I wouldn’t want to be changed by my surroundings. Would you? Change lies in your hands, and your hands only!
The reason is quite simple: change requires motivation and endurance.
And if you don’t want to change yourself, you won’t have any motivation nor endurance to be able to jump over the obstacles that will come. And trust me, there will be obstacles everywhere.
But don’t worry! You can still help someone in need. Because you can still influence and guide someone to take a certain path, but that’s all you can do. The rest is up to the other person.
There are three steps that are involved in change:
Accept things how they are. Accept yourself and others. However, accepting yourself doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to change. Quite the contrary, it’s the only way. You have to be able to accept things to be able to change them.
2. Acknowledge the problem.
What is it, that is disturbing you from living that optimal life you always desired? Is it yourself or does the problem lay with others?
3. Take action!
If others are the problem, try to guide them to a better direction or just try to keep them away from your life. However, if you aren’t happy with yourself: change! Just take action. Nobody said it was going to be easy, but that’s all you can do. Do you want to get rid of those extra pounds? Take action and start going to the gym! Whatever you want, you can achieve it, if it isn’t limited by your genes.
